The Penelopiad
Sinodun Players, The Corn Exchange, Wallingford
Ken Ludwig's farcical comedy of an American Repertory Company in the 1950s playing a third rate tour, but whose ageing 'names" are still hoping for Hollywood stardom, required and generally received the broad playing of the US at that time in demonstrating all the possible things which can go wrong (involving a frighteningly long drunk scene) when your matinee is visited by Frank Capra, desperate to replace an injured Ronald Colman in his film. Hope still persisted when they learned Capra had been delayed and would attend in the evening instead.
