Wow what a show! from the moment the band struck up it was obvious we were going to be in for a treat and I was not wrong. Everyone played their parts to the full and like true professionals, it was difficult to tell this was a youth performance, Thomas White played Chris, the GI who falls in love with the young Vietnamese girl, and was able to get the emotion from this part which could usually be expected from someone much older, Thomas sang the songs beautifully especially the duets with Kim played by Abbi Ellison who was perfect for this part as was her singing. Abbi was able to transform herself from the shy little girl who is thrust into a life of prostitution into the caring mother of Tam, played by 5 year old Felix Yates who I am sure stole the hearts of all the audience each night. The part of the Engineer is a not an easy one to carry off but Jodan Moxon was able to carry it off with aplomb, his characterisation was excellent keeping the audience in the palm of his hand throughout the whole show, mixing just the right amount of a cheeky chappie and schemer this character calls for. Also worth mentioning are James Bradshaw as John who together with the men’s chorus gave a heartfelt rendition of 'Bui Doi' and Emily White who played Ellen and gave so much emotion to the song 'Her or Me'. Thank you Take 2 Theatre School for a great evening.
