~~Everyone has memories of the past be it happy or sad, friends and members no longer with us. In this production the Society remembered its past and paid tribute to those who had helped the group become what it is today. In particular they were celebrating the life of Julia Fellows who had been their Musical Director for a considerable time and who had arranged the numbers being performed in this concert.
With selections from South Pacific, Kismet and Les Miserables coupled with music from Ivor Novello, songs from the Julie Andrews collection and London Pride, there was a wide choice of music for everyone’s taste. The Society performed with their usual enthusiasm and style, giving the audience a wonderful evening.
Marilyn Sykes gave us two excellent renditions of Novello’s “Love is my Reason” and “This is my Beloved” from Kismet whilst the duets sung by man and wife, Chris and Anne Wakeford not only brought tears to the eye with their interpretations but also received thunderous applause from the audience. Andrew Loades with his cheery and cheeky style along with the other soloists provided good support. Several of the other soloists were reprising numbers which they had performed during shows over quite a long period.
The production team must take great satisfaction at the level of performance achievement from the group and special mention must go to Jasmine Gillespie who took over the role of M D with great accomplishment at a difficult time.
