The opening number hit the audience with a great impact, excellent choral singing, smiling faces and such an obvious enthusiasm that the stage was set for a wonderful evening’s entertainment. And so it proved to be.

The pace of the show was electric and gave us a varied and well presented melange of farce, comedy, sadness, each aspect reflecting the moods of different scenes. The standard of the show never waivered, characters were maintained throughout and the whole performance was of a very high standard.

Andrew Loades. playing the part of the likeable cockney Bill Snibson, who has inherited a title completely out of the blue, gave a superbly polished act which grew as the show progressed. His timing was excellent and his comedy routines were well executed, keeping the audience on their toes wondering what capers were coming next. His girl friend, Sally Smith, ably played by Teresa Roberts, was a perfect foil and gave us a very well sculptured character of a girl in love but willing to sacrifice herself for Bill’s future.

Josephine Owen and Chris Wakeford as the Duchess of Dene and Sir John Tremayne, schemed against one another, each trying in their own way to do what they thought best for the family. Both gave very good performances, the Duchess with her determination to convert the new Earl into a respectable member of the family, and Sir John trying to keep the young lovers together.

Kelly-Marie Ellis, as Lady Jaqueline gave us a good impression of a dumb blonde gold-digger trying to capture Bill by fair means or foul, only wanting him for his money, whilst her long suffering fiancé ( Jordan Ramsay )showed much class in portraying the upper class fool.

Les Smith as Parchester, the confused and somewhat idiotic family solicitor, was very Pythonesque in his performance and added another comedy part to the show. The other minor parts gave good support to the main cast and it was pleasing to see that they did not play these parts just as “walk-ons”.
