A show like Me & My Girl requires a good strong actor/singer in the leading role of Bill Snibson and here Goole AOS has made the right choice in Christopher Adamson, he was perfect and certainly made this part his own. His duet “You Would if you Could” with Lady Jacqueline played by Jackie Cox was hilarious especially his actions with the cushions where he projected a ping-pong ball into the audience.
Christopher was well supported by his fellow cast members, Jackie Cox as Lady Jacqueline & Claire Brannan as Sally, her duet “Me & My Girl” and “Hold My Hand” were both delivered with ease much to the delight of the audience.
In the part of Gerald Bolingbroke who continually makes advances on Lady Jacqueline, was Matthew Clarke, I could see the character he was trying to achieve, a sort of Hooray Henry, but I felt at times he did have a tendency to go over the top to try and succeed this.
Very much ruling the roost is the matriarchal character of the piece, The Duchess of Dene played quite domineeringly by Judith Turner, her interchanges with Alan Humble as Sir John Tremayne were very amusing.
A favourite part of mine is that of Parchester and I was very pleased to see Russell Fallon in this part, his delivery of The Family Solicitor along with the rest of the family was excellent.
Other parts were also played well to compliment the chorus and children involved to deliver a good show.
One character I must mention is that of Anastasia Brown, only a small part but one which Amanda Andrews certainly made her mark in this cameo appearance.
The night prior to my visit the company had received some very sad news informing them of the death one of their stalwart members and director Doreen Chappell MBE. The company on hearing this decided to dedicate the Thursday evening’s performance to Doreen’s memory, one which I am sure she would have loved.
