Me and My Girl is an ideal company show.

Leading man Bill Snibson was played with aplomb by Tony Young; delivering one-liners with natural ease – a good song and dance man too. Angela Harding took the role of his ‘girl’ Sally Smith, never dropping her Cockney accent and a great tapper. In contrast, Dawn Patton was delightfully snobbish as Lady Jacqueline. Her attempts to ensnare the new Earl were well executed, as were the ‘bally bally’ reactions of upper class twit Gerald (Barry O’Kelly)! Siobhan Farrell was an aristocratic Duchess who did ‘disapproving’ very well, as did Elizabeth McGeown as Lady Battersby.  Sir John Tremayne was played by Eamonn Connolly with style and good comic timing. Drew Reid was convincing as Parchester – his rendition of “The Family Solicitor” was well received. Charles O’Kelly made the right impression in his stage debut as butler Charles; Lord Battersby, Sir Jasper Tring, party guests, and portrait ancestors all added support to the aristocratic household. Dancers moved beautifully and blended easily with chorus when required. Singing and diction were good all round.

Lighting was erratic – some nice effects but frequent use of black tabs made lighting difficult. The set was rather sparse but well made and usually well dressed. Sound was well balanced with voices never overcome by Billy Cairns’ 10-piece orchestra, hidden behind the cyclorama. Great credit to Angela for the innovative choreography while also taking the leading lady’s role and to Siobhan for directing her home company in a most entertaining show.
