This was a fast-moving musical full of humour and with some very strong characters. Director Lucy had worked well with the cast to develop their characters so that they were both natural and believable. There were some excellent performances from the principals each of which had great characterisation and sang with lovely tuning, expression and dynamis.
The show was well blocked with good use of the staging and set pieces. The pace was very sharp, and all the comedic elements of this very funny show were brought out to give a production which was of a high standard.
Choreographer Lucinda did a wonderful job with some lovely original and entertaining dance routines which were full of joy and zest. I especially enjoyed “The Lambeth Walk” with high energy full cast choreography making use of both the stage and the auditorium aisles. The high kicking lively dance section for the principal dancers was a highlight and they performed with all the style, precision and sparkle of an old school musical. “The Sun Has Got His Hat on” was also a joyous and fun routine. What an excellent show!
