“ Me And My Girl” .is a good old fashioned musical that was first performed in 1937. , The book was revised for a multi award winning production in 1985, that ran for nine years in the West End.
The storyline set in the 1930s, tells of an unapologetically unrefined cockney gentleman named Bill Snibson, who learns that he is the 14th heir to the Earl of Hareford.
From the start. It was a very easy show to love. A superb orchestra producing a lovely sound, wonderful chorus singing from a very enthusiastic company, lovely effective choreography and imaginative direction that brought out all the wonderful comedy.
I Thought the lead actor was magnificent as Bill Snibson. He portrayed a loveable character, who was totally believable. Of course it is not a one man show, so with all the other excellent principal characters they had a superb team. There was a lot of very funny dialogue and the delivery and timing was outstanding throughout the show, producing lots of laughter from the very appreciative audience.
All the musical numbers were excellent, my personal favourite was the “ Song of Hareford “ the sound produced was amazing, and with the full company in wonderful costumes it looked fabulous.
Poole and Parkstone productions, constantly achieve a very high standard that is certainly, equal to, if not better, than any of the professional touring company productions, that we see in this area. It looked fantastic and sounded fantastic. It had been advertised as “ The Happiest Show in Town” and it certainly was. This was a really happy, feel good show, that sent us home singing. Well done to everyone concerned.
