Matilda Junior

It’s always a pleasure to visit Avenue especially their junior group. We all know the story of Matilda by now I would hope, I certainly do, seen it so many times, so I was looking forward to Avenue Theatre Juniors’ interpretation with this talented bunch of young people.

Firstly, I must congratulate your stage manager Adam Bicknell for keeping this Matilda moving along swiftly, his crew were very professional, and the set was excellent for such a small stage as were the props and costumes. With two Matildas I can only comment on Annabelle Cogger, but I feel Amelia Gibbs on other nights was equally as good as Annabelle.

Annabelle led the cast, and she performed this with a great sense of the part. With so many in the cast I can’t mention you all: a cast of 25 young people playing so many parts, adults as well. Do we adults behave so badly? Well done to all those that played them. This Matilda had a true meaning and a cast full of young talent. Well done to Director Lisa Thornton and Tamsyn Furneaux Choreographer for bringing this to the fore, your direction with so many on stage and so little space….. I applaud you.
