Magic of the Musicals

This year is the Peacehaven Players' 25th Anniversary – congratulations!  A lovely idea to showcase songs from the musicals that the Players have performed over the years which proved to be an excellent form of entertainment.

There were fifteen members of the cast who gave everything they had to bring us some old favourites and some from the newer shows.  Each excerpt was introduced by one of the singers, giving us a thumbnail sketch of the show itself.

The recorded music worked well but was perhaps a little too loud for some of the quieter voices but all in all, everything came over extremely well starting with an excerpt from Joseph & the Amazing Technical Colour Dreamcoat and ending with a selection from Mamma Mia with many other delights in between.

The choreography was also excellent and high praise indeed for all those responsible for creating the dance routines.

It was a very hot afternoon (I attended the matinee) and it must have been sizzling on stage, particularly with all the costume changes which were executed so well in what must have been a very short space of time.  Well done to the Wardrobe ladies who sourced just the right costumes for every song.

The setting was simple – beautiful draping changed by the lighting according to the mood of what was being sung and danced.

We, the audience, were seated in cabaret style and were well served by the bar staff.

So much work must have gone into producing this compilation and many congratulations must go to Director Judith Foot and her assistant, Georgie Bancroft and all those involved whether on stage or behind the scenes.

Here’s to another 25 years for this talented company.
