Following four couples on a romantic journey Kirk’s concept ideas were cleverly linked using lyrics as dramatic verse and then songs to shape a series of windows into love affairs. Beginning with the ‘Love Actually’ movie introduction the scene was set. The company of 17 delivered a mix of popular songs that punctuated the theme of each love affair with the couples being well matched with vocals blending nicely. The stage was simply set and lighting was used to create the atmosphere with thought and care. Costumes were based around a monochrome palette highlighted by a single pop of colour for each romance.

Wellington has strength in chorus numbers and there was no exception in this offering, a highlight being Everlasting Love. Solo and duet highlights included Something Stupid, Frozen and Son of a Preacher Man. The autumn productions at the Art Centre have become something of a tradition and gives everyone a moment to shine and on the evening I attended this included the director who was obviously covering a missing cast member – congratulations Kirk you covered well and your creation touched the heart, a lovely evening’s entertainment.
