Hot off the heels of their Noda Award Winning 39 Steps, directed by Carol Coleman, Mimi Ferrier directed RATS latest offering of Lord Arthur Saville’s Crime, a play by Oscar Wilde.

I must pay special note to the set for this show which certainly showcased once again the management and design of Lucy Chiplin. The technical and stage management team also gained the Noda award for 39 Steps and the standard was certainly maintained here. It was a delight to the eyes, exceptionally well dressed and fully functional. It really did lift this play, giving the actors a great arena. I was however aware of the congestion caused by the settee at the expense of sight lines and positioning. That being said Alex Brent as the Lord and Robert William Gairey as his faithful Butler, Baines did keep the play moving along. This particularly wordy play did give the cast a few challenges on the night I attended. I particularly enjoyed Chris Collier-Roberts’ portrayal of the overly protective Lady Julia Merton and Lady Windermere, Arthur’s aunt played by Nicki John.

Now I am always happy to see the surname Coleman listed within the cast of this society and tonight it was the turn of one very talented Chris Coleman. His portrayal of the anarchist Herr Winklekopf was flawless delivering his failed murder plots, (damn that Gladstone bag latch), and hapless solutions with aplomb. A great nights entertainment was experienced by RATs supportive audience and sponsors alike, thank you Mimi for the production and thank you RATS for the invite.
