Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime - A great play written by Oscar Wilde about Lord Arthur Savile, who is engaged to Sybil Merton. Her palm reader Podgers has read Lord Arthur's palm and foretold that he would commit a murder. Lord Arthur desires a blissful married life and therefore feels duty bound to get the murder over first. Despite help from his butler and the cheerful Winkekopts, attempt after attempt fails. Then news comes that Podgers, is a charlatan so Lard Arthur is free and the carriage awaits to take him to the wedding rehearsal. Although another unforeseen mishap occurs and finds Lord Arthur arrested by the police causing another postponement notice to appear in The Times.
This production was great from the very start, it showed an authentic set, in the drawing room of Lord Arthur’s house, that was very much in keeping with era of the early 1900s, right down to the fine details. Great acting especially from Steffen Zschaler (Lord Arthur Savile) who had control of a great script.
The costumes were very colourful, made of fine fabric, which made them flow well and were finished with great accessories. Also the hair was in keeping with the period and the whole outfits were finished off with some gorgeous hats. The male cast also looked very dapper in their 1900s attire.
Finally, the production by Greyshott Stagers was well received by the audience who, by their laughter, showed that they were thoroughly enjoying their evening.
