It is over twenty years ago since I last saw a Production of “The Little Shop of Horrors” therefore I was very happy to learn that it was Wimborne Musical Theatre’s choice of show for 2022.. With their present production team I thought that they would make it into a fabulous show and I certainly was not disappointed with the end result.
Originally a film and later adapted into a stage musical. The story is set in down town New York at a rundown florist shop, where shop assistant Seymour has discovered an unusual plant which becomes a major attraction
When the curtains opened, the stage looked superb with a very impressive set which created a wonderful atmosphere. I thought that the leading roles were all excellent throughout, In particular Duncan Sayers, who’s performance as Seamer, was outstanding, absolutely perfect for the part. The show was very slick, well directed with simple but effective choreography. I was a little surprised to see that there were no musicians in the orchestra pit and that the music was to be provided by backing tracks, but I have to say, that it did sound superb.
At this theatre, the sound team always seem to have problems getting the correct balance. unfortunately, during this production there were a couple of times when the dialogue and lyrics was inaudible. When the whole cast are putting their heart and soul into the performance I always feel that they have been a little let down.
However, it did not spoil what was overall an excellent show, that was very enjoyable and was greatly appreciated by the enthusiastic audience
My congratulations go to all concerned on a great achievement.
