The Woodhouse Players brought their annual Pantomime back to Leytonstone with a large cast and crew for Little Red Riding Hood. This year’s production had all the ingredients of the festive pie including the one in the Queen’s face! Songs and dances thrilled the cheering audience for their sold out run and the puns and Christmas cracker jokes came fast and furious. Many of the cast were experienced pantomimers and carried the style and engagement with the audience with full force. The restrictions of their venue meant some back-to-basics stage designs but the stage crew worked hard to keep the magic alive.
There were scary ghosts running loose amongst the audience, the palace guards’ double act and drill practice, the energetic Rice Krispies trio, the Royal Doctor’s gags, three witches who cackled together hubbling, bubbling, toiling and troubling in Traitor style cloaks, the hero’s West Country accent, a colourful Dame Hyacinth and the baddie who became the wolf.
Unsurprisingly Little Red Riding made it safely to the end of her expedition and all lived happily ever after.
