Welcomed warmly to this terrific little theatre, set in an 13th century church in Winchester, I took my seat and looked forward to my evening's entertainment.
Life x 3 is a one act play that is split into three possible scenario's based around two couples meeting for a dinner party at the home of Sonia and Henri (a highly strung Italian), but arriving a day earlier than expected. The set, a simple affair of a settee with coffee table in the middle and two bucket chairs to stage left and right, with a three part wall painting to the rear, was well used and well lit. Chesil Theatre's set design team always produces good quality sets given the very small size of the stage that they use. This was no exception and the team led by David James came up with an effective set that gave the principals good spaces to use.
This was a four handed play directed by Flavia Bateson, with Hubert and Ines, Steve Clark and Rachel O'Neill on one side with Henri and Sonia as the hosts on the other. Henri and Hubert are scientists, Henri trying to get his paper on Flat Halos published with Hubert alluding to a paper that may well have already been published by another, adding to Henri's stress. This coupled with a very annoying, crying child and you have the recipe for any number of outcomes. All four played ther parts well and with confidence. The diction was good and you were able to follow the three changing storylines well.
A splendid production, good character portrayal, another great evening at Chesil theatre, thank you.
