There were plenty of laughs in this one act play as part of a COMEDY NIGHT with Colwyn Abbey Players and I am sure the author would have been pleased with the Company’s efforts. The script was pacey throughout the piece with no pauses in its delivery.
Keith Lewis, Sue Rogers and Geoff Skelhorn were competent in the roles of Inspector Allcock, Sergeant Pickles and Constable Cockett, respectively trying to do their utmost to halt the closure of Botchington Police station.
I thought the three pensioners from the knitting circle, Hilda, Janet Davies: Myrtle, Jenny Phillips : and Dottie, Margaret Norwood were absolutely fantastic in their roles. To be honest, I know these three ladies very well but when they arrived on stage, I hardly recognised them, sporting their very brightly knitted outfits and hats with exaggerated make up. They extracted every ounce of comedy with their charactizations and had the audience in fits. Dymphna Payne as Dolly a cleaner made a valuable contribution to the proceedings whilst Eileen Burtonwood completed the cast as Miss Dixon-Beaver who turned out to be not as true as we thought.
A great little play with plenty of laughs to keep us warm on a cold evening.
CONGRATULATIONS to all concerned and thank you once again for your invitation.
