I very much doubt there are many people who have not seen and enjoyed Les Miserables and if there is anybody out there who has not seen it they should have gone to see Take 2’s production of this smash hit show this week, they would not have been disappointed.

There were some brilliant performances not only from the principals but also from the excellent chorus who al managed to pull out all the stops to bring this show to life.

All the young actors who portrayed the principal characters did so with ease to ensure the audience understood every bit of the action.

As we all know the action takes place in France at the time of the French Revolution and where the two main characters, Jean Val Jean and Javert meet. Val Jean was in the capable hands of Kyle Tomlinson who was able to deliver the songs well, the character of Javert was portrayed by Marcus Roebuck who to  say he has a good voice is an understatement, he was perfect and his delivery of Stars was nothing short of excellent.

Portraying the female characters we had Jodie Sidebottom as Fantine who again was able to deliver her songs with ease, Rebecca Hall and Isabelle Yates were able to get everything out of their parts, Eponine and Cosette respectively. Rebecca sang On My Own beautifully and Isabelle was perfect and her singing was crystal clear especially when she sang her duets with Louis Wilkinson as Marius.  Louis was also able to get the most out of all his songs none more so than when he sang Empty Chairs, I am sure there was not a dry eye in the house.

There are two great comedy parts in this show, the Thenardiers and here we had two youngsters who were able to bring out the best in the characters in fact I didn’t recognise Bailey Whitfield who gave an excellent portrayal of M. Thenardier alongside Rosie Rayner as Madame Thenardier, they combined to give a great comedic double act.

I must also mention Keaton Woodcock who gave an excellent portrayal of Gavroche and Casey Heeley as Enjolras; both gave very convincing performances to enrich the whole production.

Many congratulations to everyone involved in this production especially Geoff Whitfield for the production and Iain Price as MD.
