Overall, this was a colourful, funny and heartfelt production with some standout performances from both principals and ensemble members and was clearly enjoyed by the large Hexagon audience.
Rarely off stage, the lead actress absolutely embodied Elle to give a stand-out performance, and she delivered the role with charisma and amazing stage presence. Her performance as she journeyed through prejudice to become a lawyer was believable and her natural charm and bubbly presence captivated the audience from her first entrance. She was supported by the Delta Nu’s her sorority sisters who had bags of energy in the opening number “Oh My God You Guys” singing and dancing with zest and pizazz. The other lead principals had developed their characterisation and gave good performances.
This large ensemble of 22 featured many roles between them and together they lent support to the principals in many of the scenes and sang and danced in the large group numbers. Their enthusiasm and enjoyment in these large group numbers were very apparent, and they were in good voice adding harmonies and volume. They had a lot of energy in the dance numbers, adding colour and spectacle, but at times, in the faster numbers, some of the cast members were a little behind the beat.
The set was excellent and the costumes of course featured a lot of pink! Sadly, there were some issues with the sound mix which affected the balance between the singers and the band, but there was still a lot of good quality singing from the group.
