SOS production of Legally Blonde - The Musical! Took place at the MAST theatre. With music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin. Book by Heather Hach. Based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture.

Director & Choreographer Louise Hodson has an excellent cast for the show, along with Nigel Finch as Musical Director, the singing was just right.   The orchestra were behind the set out of view, the set was simple and effective with a large stage area giving lots of room for the cast to use. Lighting was also good.

The story is set around Elle Woods, superbly played by Susie Maycock, she is just right with a great singing voice and you're on Elle's side right from the start. She wants to marry her college sweetheart Warner, played by George Lambourne, also is good in his part. Warner has big career ambitions and needs a serious girlfriend who can help him achieve them so he dumps Elle and heads to Harvard Law School. Elle vows to win him back and studies hard to get the marks to go to the same law school. There's a great number with Elle and the cast when she's accepted.

Once Elle starts at college she soon realises she has to work and finds it hard to fit in at first. She meets Warner's girlfriend Vivienne Kensington played by Marie Cairns, Enid Hoopes played by Amanda Peaty, & Professor Callahan played by Nick Longland.  Emmett Forrest played by Tom Joyce take a shine to Elle and helps her settle in. They all work well together. Elle's college friends become a Greek chorus, and this all adds fun to the production.

Paulette Buonofonte works in the beauty shop that Elle goes to, played by Eve Downing. It's a lovely part and they become good friends and this comes across to the audience. There's a lovely bit with the UPS guy who's taken a shine to Paulette.

Brooke Wyndham, played by Kiri Golding, is the fitness instructor accused of murder that the legal team have to defend. Elle comes into her own, wins the case and Emmett.

There are lots of smaller character roles and everyone played their parts really well and enjoyed this great show. The only two roles that are not listed in the programme but need a mention were Brusiser Woods and Rufus, the very well behaved dogs that feature in the show - definitely the ahhh factor.

Well done to you all
