What super casting for this well performed comedy play; a real treat, and it was the first night. The director Richard Gomm must be congratulated on a first rate play that was very wordy but held the audience spell bound!
There was a strong cast that kept the play flowing, the pace was just right with some very witty lines delivered well. Dianne Nicholls as Freda Deacon was excellent as the dappy eccentric who sees ghosts and has an invisible friend that has a verruca! Dianne played the role in an understated way that worked very well.
Juliet Roach as Mrs Kidd, the manager of the actor’s retirement home, got it spot on, being nice to everybody and showing shocked dismay at Margot Buchanan’s swearing!
Penny Hill as Sadie Croft played the new young aspiring actress/mistress with great skill, as did Elaine Wilson as Lady Judy Buchanan .She not only looked the lady, but her characterisation was very convincing, with plenty of light and shade
Wendy Gomm as Margot Buchanan looked every inch the aging, but still glamorous, actress and played the role with ease, hardly off stage and so many lines, and alongside her, Marc Colson as Leo Buchanan, a thespian of the old school. What a great performance, great timing and a wonderful Welsh accent that was a delight to listen to. Must mention a most entertaining cameo by Steve Clark as Robin.
It was very refreshing to see this well scripted play with great casting, well dressed ,and each individual character coming to the fore ,including the Director as the deceased! How he kept so still in the midst of all the hysteria I don’t know. The set was done very well including swinging doors. There were some great details.
It was a superb evening with first class entertainment and it showed on the audience’s faces as we all went out! Congratulations to all concerned.
