Ladies' Day

The temporary move of Royal Ascot to York in 2005 was the inspiration for this delightfully funny and at times heart-rending story of a team of four lady workers of widely varying ages from a fish packing factory in Hull having an unexpected day out there. An educational visit for non-racegoers in the audience as well as for Proscenium's four brilliant actresses, each reacting differently to the atmosphere, the thrill of choosing the right horse and the unaccustomed celebratory drinks, with  the resulting unexpected revelations all finely expressed. Well played also by the six men (or was one of them a ghost?) they met at times during the day. And the happy endings which accrued slowly during the final scene sent us all home well satisfied.
