LADIES’ DAY by Amanda Whittington is a beautifully written play, mainly for women, and focuses on the friendship between female workers who work in a fish preparation and packing plant.

Penni Carr – Pearl –

Emma Dennett – Jan –

Amanda Matthews – Shelley –

Becky Thompson – Linda –

I think it would be unfair to single out individual performances, as they all suited their roles and performed very well together, working as a team with no weak links. The audience were entertained by a number of very enjoyable extremely different characters, and getting these spot on is vital to the success of this play a task the cast achieved extremely effectively. Their comic timing and facial expressions were very good which is also crucial in this type of production. Dialogue flowed easily at just the right pace; diction was excellent from all on stage

These four actresses really worked well together and you could see how much they were enjoying themselves.

The ladies were well supported by Nigel Crick, Wayne Assiratti, Chris Glynn, Tom Dyer, Harri Herniman and Bob Tucker.

The direction of the play by Sally Mathias was well balanced with some nice touches, particularly inventive being the cast peeling off their white coats and hair nets to reveal their Race Day finery while on stage and storing the discarded clothes in the fish boxes.

Set design and construction by Wayne Assiratti  and Martin Dennett was simple but effective,

Having never seen this play before and did not know what to expect I left with a smile on my face having laughed all night.

Congratulation to everyone involved.
