Despite his hobby of toy soldiers, Edward is a mild person and he is about to experience an evening he will never forget. Working at the International Telephone Exchange, where his brother in law is his boss. Edward  "chats up" women operators in exchanges across the world. His phone affairs suddenly explode in his face when four of the females turn up at his London home to compete in the Miss Europhone contest and all want to meet Mr London in the flesh. Hilarious complications ensue as Edward strives to conceal his phone affairs from his wife, his appalling mother in law and his lodger, an ardent vicar.

Setting the plot in this hilarious comedy took some time, but once it got going it was very funny, mainly in the second act. Stephen Elliot took the part of Mr London, Edward Hawkins, and gave an adequate performance as a stupid husband to Rose Hawkins perfectly played by Janine Hall, standing in at the last minute I believe…and directing this play she did this with a certain amount of professionalism…. to do both is some task. Well Done. Brian Thornton as Gordon Routledge had some good ‘off the cuff’ comedy lines and executed them well, as did his mother Mrs Routledge played by Gloria Argent. She gave us a doddery old mother with grace. An excellent characterization by Adam Bicknell as the Vicar Mark Thomson, a hilarious, tongue in cheek performance, great. Congratulations must go out to the four girls, Monique Lisa Thornton, Sylvana Rebecca Reeves, Ingrid Tanya Knight and although we only see her a few seconds Hannah Rickwood as Snowdrop. Their accents were perfect and they kept them up all the way through the performance.

A very solid set as always from Avenue Theatre Productions, a typical farce set with 6 doors. There were a few problems: a switch that didn’t lower the lights, a door that was supposed to be stuck kept coming open  and broken glasses and dropped sandwiches, BUT this all added to the fun of this well acted farce by Avenue Theatre Productions Thank you for inviting me and guest, we enjoyed our evening. Good luck with Ladies' Day
