Kipps

A star performance by Kipps himself, in this version singing and dancing in an amazing twenty musical numbers and with not a sign that he'd done it all week, ensured our approbation at the final performance while turning the rest of the cast into supporting players. Fine contributions from a much overlooked Ann, a properly theatrical Chitterlow, the other four drapers' apprentices separately characterised, and the Walsinghams' mostly snooty set, but also by the rest of the company who had to swap between poor and rich at the drop of a conductor's baton and did so with spirit in the plethora of company song and dance choruses.
