The story is fictitious but set on real events where the British Government introduced a programme to allow Jewish German children to be transported to the UK and fostered by British parents. Some 10,000 children were resettled and this fascinating story focuses one nine year old child, Eva Schlesinger, who only seemed to know one English word “goodbye”. It follows her relationship with her foster mother and how much she misses her birth parents but slowly, year by year, she becomes less Jewish and eventually, as a teenager, decides not to follow her natural mother but stay in the UK.
EBOS’s production was skilfully acted and imaginatively directed with an impressive set and supported by atmospheric lighting and sound effects.
