Even before I became a NODA representative in 2000 I always thought that the West Moors Singers annual Christmas concert is the start of my build up towards Christmas day.

Apart from “Bring Him Home”, “Bless this House” and “You Raise Me Up” every number had a Christmas theme to it. There were none of the heavy choral selections, which in the past the choir have sometimes struggled with. Therefore, together with many of the large audience, I could have happily sang along with nearly every number, but unfortunately we were only encouraged to join in with the four Christmas carols

Each number, was sang well and with great enthusiasm. I particularly enjoyed the swing selection at the start of the second half.

The compare for the evening, John Reid, made a good job of linking it all together with his observations and antidote’s. However, as he sings bass, he sits on the back row of the choir, which makes it a little awkward for him.

It was very pleasing to see so many new faces amongst the choir, two ladies and five gentlemen. I hope to see them all at future concerts

“Joyful Christmas” was dedicated to the memory of two long term members of the choir, Baird Oldrey and Christine Peggrem, who had recently passed away. It proved to be a very enjoyable and a light hearted evening, which I thought was a great tribute to them both
