The Penelopiad
Sinodun Players, The Corn Exchange, Wallingford
The first play set in the First World War trenches, produced in London almost ten years later and soon having huge success around the world, was Harefield's choice to honour the memories of the men who fought in that conflict, particularly those from their village, with extra poignancy from having its first performance on Armistice Day. Committed portrayals of characters in the realistic dug-out under battle conditions touched our hearts but didn't preclude us also laughing at the well-incorporated humour.
