I was delighted to able to attend Britton Ferry’s production of Joseph and even more delighted that after many years NODA is once again able to enjoy the work of this talented company.
The set was excellent and the costumes very well sourced. There was some very effective lighting and the band were outstanding and ably directed by Gareth Thomas.
The ensemble was great and so enthusiastic on stage. Their energy was palpable and the singing really well-polished.
The principals were well-cast and mention must go to the brothers, Andrew Phillips, Craig Sawyers, Owain Davies, Tyler Joseph, Leigh Bamford, Sam Jones, Thomas Hearn, Rhys Jenkins, Andrew Broom, Gethin Edwards and Steffan Lloyd. They worked brilliantly together on stage with great rapport which is so very important when working as a team, and their rendition of ‘Those Canaan Days’ was great. The brothers’ wives were also very good and their ensemble numbers with the brothers very entertaining indeed. Owain Davies and Rhian Williams played Mr and Mrs Potiphar well, Howie Johnson was a lovely Jacob and the cameo roles of the Butler and Baker were nicely portrayed by Leigh Bamford and Andrew Broom as was the camel cameo of Paul Coxon and Nigel Watkins.
Joseph Robinson played the title role of Joseph well and had good command of the stage. Special mention must go to Owain Davies who gave a very comedic and highly entertaining performance as Pharaoh and to the Narrators, Lauren Williams, Rachel Williams and Rhian Thomas. They were excellent and led us through the story demonstrating some very fine vocal ability and beautiful stage presence.
It was wonderful to see the young people of the company providing the Children’s Choir and they were extremely well-focused on stage and sang so very well. Many thanks to the entire company and I very much look forward to the next production!
