What a talented group the “Young Uns” are, and supported by the “Grown Up Uns”. It was very evident that this company work hard together throughout preparation and performance with an excellent result.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a well known story and includes popular songs. Llangollen again kept a freshness in their show, as always. It was good to see in Pam’s Producer’s notes a reference to all of the various factions working together, and after many hours of preparation and work back stage during the show. The technical results, scenery, costumes, music showed, especially in all the songs, the preparation and thought which went into this show. It was well rehearsed and each scene had a ‘wow’ factor. Sphinx of course was one of the many of these. I loved the French berets and, of course, French accents in ‘Canaan Days’, and to top it all Joseph’s wonderful coat of many colours which were supported by innovative lighting.
Where to start with performers; so many excellent performances and cameo parts in the show. Great to give so many of the cast their special turn in the spotlight. Of course Cassius Hackforth (Joseph) stood up to the mark again. He played the part with understanding and gave a credible performance of 10 songs. Phew! He kept the attention of everyone throughout.
Two narrators, Erin Roberts and Celyn Orlon-Jones, worked very well together. This is a huge part and I think splitting it worked well for the girls. Excellent. Aled Morris (Jacob and Potiphar) had 2 parts to portray. Well done, it is not easy changing characters, especially with such a demanding Mrs Potipher (Sophie Roberts). Luke and James Reardon (Butler and Baker) played several other parts being joined by Marcus Skelton. Lots of costume changes to contend with.
Multi-tasking was certainly the order of the day in this show, all obviously expert in this. Too many of course to mention by name but a big congratulations to all. The change of costumes and scenes also gave the choreographer (Pamela Williams) a chance to give us another change of movement/dance. As producer and choreographer I feel she got a real hand handle on the show. Congratulations.
So why haven’t I mentioned Shea Ferron? He stole the show for me. I have to commend him. He played Simeon and sang falsetto in ‘One More Angel in Heaven’ and soared over everyone. Then his part as Pharoah/Elvis was tremendous. He obviously loved every minute of it and the audience and cast were with him all the way.
The Young Uns took us to another level of performance and I hope they stick around to become the ‘Old Uns’ in time. A very enjoyable show.
