YMTC brought a taste of Egyptian splendor to Street when they presented Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. As is the norm with YMTC they made it their own! Enter an enthusiastic well drilled chorus of infants, attentively they sat listening to their teacher (who later morphed into the Narrator!) and watched the bright and colorful characters appear from a giant Bible! The demanding role of Narrator played by Jami Bartlett was handled with a maturity beyond her years, beautiful clear diction and colour in her voice; she made it easy for the audience to follow the story.

Playing Joseph was Tobi Turley, only in his teens this young man owned the role of Joseph and showed his ability to reach both the stalls and circle and command the stage. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when he sang ‘Close Every Door’. with his powerful and emotive portrayal. Jacob is not an easy role for a young man to play, but Jack Squire as a trendy Hippie Dad sporting sunglasses proved age is no barrier to a good actor, likewise Shane Bustos as Pharaoh had all the Elvis moves! Joseph’s Brothers (and Sisters) were colorful characters! Vocally they were strong and worked as a team; together they mastered all the different styles of choreography. ‘One More Angel In Heaven’ was full of humor and a great use of line dancing. Visually we were treated to an opulent set of gold in Pharaohs Palace with treads making great use of levels. Keeping the set minimal kept the action flowing. Costumes and Make Up had been cleverly designed and enhanced the production.

The whole company gave 100%. Well done.
