This ground breaking rock musical caused criticism when it first opened in London in the 1960’s that is hard to believe today, and yet went on to great acclaim.
An impressive cast led by the singing and acting talents of Iwan Davies as Jesus, Daniel Thomas as Judas and Bethan Karen Jone as Mary Magdalene. This high drama portrayal of the last seven days of the life of Jesus Christ is a big challenge that Colstars met with dedication and skill.
With an exceptional score in the capable hands of MD Michael Jones and his musicians and scope for any company to make this performance their own this excellent production was vocally and technically outstanding, backstage to be praised for their contribution. The large cast involved made this a memorable piece of theatre.
With their rich voices Richard Lee Thomas as Pontius Pilate, Derek Williams as Caiaphas and James Dyer as Annas made an impact in every scene they appeared.
Geraint Benney as King Herod, sang and danced “Try it and See” very well with the Dancers, excellent creative choreography throughout by Choreographer Julie Griffiths.
All scenes were carefully structured which the cast, Disciples and The Chorus enhanced.
Impressive were the very effective overhead spots which made this lighting design by James Thomas unique. Setting of the Last Supper was exceptional and The Crucifixion, the company were indeed fortunate to have such a strong male cast.
Well done on this epic production, Director Derek Williams and all the Team and my thanks to Colstars.
There were great emotional moments throughout and the audience was intensely moved. The finale gave the audience consideration and at the end received deeply appreciative applause.
