This iconic and controversial rock opera took the world by storm when it was launched by Andrew Lloyd Webber who composed the music, and Tim Rice the outstanding lyricist in the 1980’s.

This rich score was played brilliantly by the skilful orchestra led by Musical Director Chris Rankin.
Direction by Freyja Duggan took the cast on an unforgettable journey, with exact positioning on stage of all the cast for maximum effect, especially the crowd scenes.

Imagine, no one until this musical, had ever staged the life of Jesus Christ on stage before, only passion plays at Easter were seen so it was greeted by mixed views, though most found this piece of theatre enlightening and it certainly made everyone very interested and caused controversy.

This production at the Theatr Brycheiniog in Brecon was an astonishing portrayal of the life of Christ by this very talented cast.

Entering the theatre we were confronted by the deep symbol of a huge lit cross which stayed throughout the performance , a powerful and memorable vision.

Opening with a fine performance of a powerful Judas Iscariot from Nia Roberts, every emotion of this complex character was shown by Nia and the energised ensemble gave their all to, ’ What’s The Buzz’ and Everything Is Alright, and This Jesus Must Die.

In fact in every number they were totally involved to their credit.

Dan Price gave a superb performance as Jesus of Nazareth with his powerful vocals, moving and real. Hattie Phillips as Mary Magdalene gave a strong and believable performance,

A Pontius Pilate of strength , straight from the Bible, from Jesse Ashby with a magnificent depth to his vocals and dialogue. Caiaphus from the experienced actor Steve Dobson who commanded the stage with his total conviction of this character.

Other parts well played were Dylan Matthews as Simon,

Rachel Noble as Annas, Gethyn Jones as Herod and George Southgate as Peter, a rising star with fantastic stage presence.

The Apostles, Priests, Dancers and Ensemble all enhanced this production with excellent performances.

Technically excellent, an effective set, and well balanced sound ,over loud to begin with, then it became tolerable, Lighting effects were exceptionally high intensity.

Congratulations to everyone involved in this performance and thank you for your kind welcome and hospitality.

Every success for the future BLT! I look forward to your next performance.
