Jekyll and Hyde is a tale of two men, one a Doctor and one a madman plus two ladies Emma and Lucy both in love with the same man and both unaware of his dark secret.  The story of good and evil is brought to life in the stage version of the book Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson, and based loosely on the classic tale adapted from The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde.  This music is composed by Frank Wildhorn with the Lyrics and Libretto  by Lselie Bricusse.

Huddersfield Muscial Theatre Company selected a totally different kind of production thus year as they took their audience into a journey of Dramatic darkness.  Dom Moccia played the extremely demanding dual role of the tormented Dr. Henry Jekyll and the terrifying Edward Hyde with absolute passion and creativity.  With a series of experiments he was trying desperately to separate good from evil, but the board of governers refused him permission to perform these experiments, so he secretly experimented on himself with disastrous consequences.

The song of the show is "This is the Moment" superbly presented just before he takes the formula and the transformation takes place.  The change from Jekyll to Hyde was brilliantly portrayed and as the show progresses the evil became more convincing.

The two ladies in his life, his fiancee,Emma Carew, (Lorna Boole) and Lucy Harris the singer and dancer from "The Red Rat"  sang beautifully and both were focused in song and libretto alike.

All three principals made a strong contribution, each character understood their role and gave quality performances.  The staging of the murders of the various characters were inventive and staged with precision throughout.  The chorus singing and movement was exceptional, along with the choreography for the dancers in "The Red Rat" with their bawdy precision routine.

A very different production for the Society and a very brave one this year, a production that must be seen.
