This enjoyable panto ran both sides of Christmas and involved not only adult members of the main society but also several of the youngsters from their youth group.
All worked very hard to ensure that the audience was on side from early on and the whole thing was well held together by Mike Hammond as Dame Trott. Mike’s extensive experience showed throughout and he used his listening skills to make sure that no audience reaction was missed. He was effectively supported by Lloyd Robinson as Silly Simon and Roger Fozzard as King Crumble. Other main roles were in the hands of the younger members of the cast including Melanie Kendall as Jack Trott and Arrabella Carvil-Belt who played Princess Amber. Sebastion Carvil-Belt was a very effective Flesh Creep, a challenging role for any youngster. And I really enjoyed Daisy the Cow (Andrew Studholme and Sophie Pease).
As usual the production, which Mike Hammond also directed, employed all the traditional panto effects including good comedy, UV lighting, colourful costumes, a bit of slapstick and a simple keyboard accompaniment. If anything I perhaps would have included a couple more musical items which were maybe shorter than those that were included but this is a small issue.
Finally, a good set was utilised which worked well.
