My season of pantomime productions ended with a super Jack and the Beanstalk at the Floral Hall.  The full house was totally immersed in a good script from the very start with the adults in the audience enjoying it just as much as the children.

This society is very lucky in having a large number of young performers and they did a tremendous job with some energetic song and dance routines, with several of their number taking some of the smaller roles.  One such person was Macsen Sherer who was a very likeable Timmy Trott, working hard with an excellent Dame Trott (Ian Thompson) and helping to get much of the comedy across, especially in the popular wallpaper sketch.

I enjoyed Anna Bant as Jack as she delivered her lines and songs well and had a good presence on the stage.  Amelia Fletcher played Jack’s intended, Jill, nicely and Amber Waines was a very happy Fairy.

The standout performance, for me, was given by Joe Porte as Fleshcreep and his take on Mack the Knife, with appropriate words, was superb – a showstopper!  Not only could he sing and move well but he showed that listening skills are as vital as anything in a pantomime.  I was also highly impressed with Dominic Hyam as the Sergeant.

With a dancing cow and strong back up performances from everyone it was also good to note that there were no hiccoughs with the backing tracks which were used throughout.  Maybe this is becoming a trend.

Hornsea’s costumes are always excellent and a small set was well used.  Lighting was effective although the sound quality varied a little.

Overall, very entertaining.
