This was a first and most welcomed invite to a society established for thirty years, and hopefully not the last. Action started with a bang and pretty much stayed that way, with strong infectious enthusiasm and a huge amount of enjoyable fun. Cast were energetic, animated and appeared as a very happy team. Song choices were excellent, modern and relevant, obviously chosen with much thought. Singing was tight and unison performed to a very high standard, moved along at a cracking pace by a small group of talented musicians. As an opener, ‘Our House ‘showed a confidence that continued throughout and while there were some stunning vocal performances, without doubt the chorus took top accolade. Rehearsed to perfection the sounds produced were sublime and a pleasure to hear. Proving age is but a number, the young production team firmly grasped the reins in every aspect. The set was striking, beautifully painted with strong colours that complimented the flattering costumes. Choreography was modern and light, as befitting a pantomime. How refreshing to see dancers who could ‘dance’ and perform, including the cow, (Pat) whose Irish dance left the audience breathless. Slapstick routines were controlled without losing spontaneity and genuinely funny as were the director touches, such as the runaway giants head, closely followed by its body charging through the auditorium. This was home grown entertainment at its very best, excellent family entertainment.
