~~New stage, new director and a new approach but still the Wayfarers Panto magic was spun. The slight paring down on set and technical wizardry due to a smaller venue made the focus even stronger on the performers themselves. The second matinee of the first day of performance had all the usual magical ingredients, so much so that in the opening number the children on the front row of the audience were audibly heard to say ‘Wow’. A story book set and beautiful costumes supported the action on stage admirably and technical challenges were met head on, congratulations team. Performers were working hard throughout getting the extremely young audience into a noisy frenzy when we all got to join in with ‘What does the COW say’. Stars on opening day were certainly the beautiful dancers, not a foot out of line thanks to the skill and drilling they are given by Sheila. Principals who caught the eye were the terrible Rancid who gave a totally rounded performance, the pretty Fairy Sugardust and the beautiful Princess Primrose and her handsome Jack. These two ladies showed perfect partnership, dancing and singing their way into our hearts. The cushion puppet Giant worked beautifully, it would have been lovely to see more of him but sometimes the script just doesn’t allow us to over indulge. Well done Wayfarers let look to another slice of your magic for 2015 whatever it may be.
