This production was written and directed by Marianne Bowen and this was her first time as director, and it was a sterling job.
From the very beginning there was the opportunity for audience participation.
The songs were ones we knew and had us tapping our feet, and giving the obligatory replies.. Oh yes we did..
All the main characters were well cast. Dame (Nick Taylor) gave us a good dame with quick improvisation and good comedy timing. Jack (Hazel Guppy) gave us a “Slap my thigh” principle boy, just what we are looking for, and Jill was a perfect compliment to Jack.
A gentle good fairy ( Maxine Stow) and a dastardly Hench (Keith Weight) made up the main characters.
Goosey ( Kathryn Regan ) and Harmony (Charlotte Bebbington) shone in their respective roles.
I always have a good look at the chorus when I visit, and this chorus was engaged and kept up the energy, but my eyes were drawn to Orwyn Paders-Ball, who played both the Gatekeeper and was in the chorus. He was a joy to watch and smiled all the way through. Well done
Thank you for your invitation.
