It’s that time again for Amlwch Showstoppers to present their annual Pantomime at the Memorial Hall, Amlwch. A fine panto venue with a stage that each year is filled with colourful sets, magical costumes and a cast, with smiles on their faces clearly enjoying performing for a full house.
This year’s show was the classic yarn ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ which tells the tale of siblings Jack and Jill and their adventure up a large beanstalk. Jack was admirably played by Shauna Brown whilst Lydia Newman-Walker played Jill, whose singing voice is something to behold! - a real vocal talent. The siblings mum was hilariously played by Eirlys Walker, her comedy timing was spot on, a performance as colourful as her outfits. The giant was played by Showstopper 20 year veteran Ruth Purton, although not a giant as we have known in the past, this was a giant with a twist…a tiny ‘giant’ who walked around hilariously with shoes attached to her knees.
Bethan Purton was excellent as Princess Prue, with good support performances from Zoe Thompson and Gareth O’Reilly as King and Queen. The show was written and Directed by Showstopper members Rachel Jones and I hope to see more of scripts from her in the future as she has a real talent, and it is so nice to see a group write and perform their own show from scratch. Some of the script could not be heard from the back row where I was, due to projection, but this was a small negative of which was a fantastic overall positive. Well done to all involved.
