~~Written by local Katherine Kingsford this well-crafted piece of panto frivolity was based around the Lewis Carroll poem of the same name. This was certainly an educational evening as the unusual words of the poem along with the word battle between Prince Krispin and the Bandersnatch created a whole extension to the vocabulary of the young audience….possibly!. Bandersnatch certainly showed his acting prowess as his scripted pieces were certainly challenging and he met these with panache. The usual concepts of panto were also in evidence with the dotty Nanny Numkin and the crazy Jester Japes. The Royals were a perfectly matched pair dealing with the trials and tribulations of bringing up a teenage daughter with attitude. It was refreshing to have a gutsy Princess not a simpering one, even if she was abducted early in the show and not seen until her rescue at the end of act two, but she certainly made an impact on her audience. Romance was not lost as her brother fell hopelessly in love with a pretty Wood Nymph who sang beautifully and captured his heart at first sight …as only panto romances do! Costumes were suitably bright and the scenic artist graced the backcloths with beautiful art work which were a pleasure to behold. This year the chorus was young and smiling supported by a sprinkling of fun loving adults dancing, singing and having a fabulous time, as were the local audience who also enjoyed the festive hospitality of the front of house team…roll on next year and another fun packed panto.
