From what I can remember the 60’s and 70’s went quickly and, in keeping with that time, so did this trip back to a good era of popular music and comedy.
I should state at the outset that I thought that the cast gave an eager audience a really excellent performance. With weekly shows, it seemed as if they had been raring to go again from the moment the curtain had come down the previous week and they showed great enthusiasm. Everyone worked well, they were smiling and happy and I am not going to single anyone out. From the time the show opened we were presented with some super vocals and some accompanying movement which didn’t distract, some good laughs and bright costumes.
The years covered were basically the mid 1960s to the mid 1970s and we were reminded of hits by The Carpenters, The Seekers, The Beatles, The Kinks, Cilla, Dusty, Barbra Steisand and loads more – there was even the theme song from The Onedin Line.
Comedy memories were stirred by the Two Ronnies, Morecambe and Wise, Tommy Cooper and Monty Python sketches.
The singing was accompanied by MD Geoff Allanach, on keyboards, together with a drums and, at times, two guitars. The pace and drive he took everything at was tremendous and only added to the overall enjoyment of the evening.
A well satisfied audience, including me, couldn’t have asked for more!
