It’s a Wonderful Death this is a dark comedy set in the lounge of Andrew and Christine Bailey on the evening of Andrew’s 47th birthday.   He is looking forward to a quiet evening in front of the TV however his plans are ruined when Death himself appears and demands that the couple accompany him to the other side.  They are far from happy about the arrangement and request more time.  They are given their day in court by a very benign Death.  The testimonials of a flirtatious PA, a dizzy pizza delivery girl and a lecherous bingo caller all contribute to their day in court.  Do they accept the consequences of continued existence or do they follow Death?

The programme was packed with information not only about the show, the cast and the society but gave local businesses and societies the opportunity to advertise and get involved in supporting local theatre.

The setting for the play is the lounge of Andrew and Christine, with exits for the front door and the kitchen.  The budgerigar is in his cage and unfortunately comes to a sad end which, was very well contrived. The set, its furniture and props were all appropriate for the period and action.  Throughout the production the lighting enhanced the action particularly the uplighting for the court scenes.

It was obvious that the cast had thoroughly enjoyed their involvement in this production and entered into their roles with great enthusiasm.  All the characterisations were well crafted and believable regardless of previous experience.  From an audience perspective, without knowing the story in advance, the direction of the plot was most unusual.  The play was a very difficult piece for a new director but it was evident that it had been soundly prepared and that the action had been well thought through.  Congratulations to all involved.
