A star studded cast descended onto the Borough Theatre stage for Forget Me Not Productions latest production Into The Woods from the book by James Lapine and score and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. This talented cast have great experience of the theatre and this is evident in every scene and they brought this to the production, with all their skills and polished performances.
Andrew Fowler the master of MC’s ,as The Narrator was exceptional in this challenging role, bringing every character alive.
The whole cast were brilliant performers, at times as this expert cast can, infinately precise, as they worked their way through this work and every well cast character fitting into the story.
The production surrounds the story of a baker exceptionally well played both by Jordan Leigh and his wife Cait Davies, with superb vocals. The couple were childless, as a curse from a witch was on them, and their quest to lift the curse by obtaining four objects for the witch formed the basis for the story.
Emma Jane Morris as The Witch gave a commanding performance, with a natural, relaxed interpretation, menace and humour thrown in!
Corey Jones charismatic performance as The Wolf knew no bounds, and Molly Brickley-Clark gave a fabulous Little Red Riding Hood ,with crystal clear powerful vocals. There was fine acting from all this cast, including Nigel Hart Cinderella’s Father, Luke Palfrey Jack, Emily John Cinderella, Falesha Lewis Cinderella’s Mother, Granny, The Giant’s Wife and Cecilia Bawler Jack’s Mother.
The set and lighting enhanced every scene with excellent effects and sound for the Giant.
Stephen Sondheim’s score is a marmite situation you either love it or hate it and for me, all his work has always felt discordant, yet it was brilliantly performed by this cast and well done MD Cait Davies.
Congratulations Director Leighton Martin and to you all.
Thank you for your kind hospitality at this special performance.
I look forward to your next so different production The Great British Bake Off Musical.
