It was a pleasure to have returned to the OSO Arts Centre, albeit to provide emergency cover in District 3, and once again review a BCP production. Thanks for the warm welcome on arrival and chat before the matinee performance.
Whilst the script adheres loosely to the guidelines of a classical comedy, Charlotte Jones (author) ensured it was had a far greater depth and an intricate, layered storyline that included dysfunctional relationships, mental challenges and confrontations with the past. As such, Humble Boy demands a very strong cast and is not a play to be undertaken lightly.
Jane Gough (Director) is to be congratulated for delivering a truly excellent production. It was clear that the cast had been carefully selected and well-rehearsed with each characters being completely believable. From start to finish the amount of time, effort and attention to detail were obvious to see. I found the whole production to be highly polished, touching and very entertaining.
This was another exceptionally strong production from BCP and, on leaving, I had to wonder why it was a play I’d not previously seen performed? Whatever the reason might be I hope to see it performed again in the future – by an equally strong cast of course!
Congratulations to everyone at BCP and thank you for a terrific afternoon’s entertainment.
