HOW TO WRITE A MUSICAL by Fiona Morgans was a jukebox musical written by Fiona Morgans and rehearsed and performed by the group in three days. The cast ranged in ages
from seven to 16. It tells the story of BADASS, a fictional youth group, who can’t decide on their next production and therefore decide to write their own!

The set was minimal: a couple of benches and the cast used the auditorium steps as seats when necessary. Properties were also minimal such as headset for the Stage Manager and notes for the Director. The costumes, rehearsal clothes, were in keeping with the theme of the show and everyone seemed comfortable in their outfits. The lighting was effective throughout, well controlled and went well with the musical numbers; flashing lights and so on.  The talent of the cast and creative team in this excellent production was
amazing. Fiona and her team took on a massive challenge in rehearsing and performing a show in just three days. Such is the strength of the cast and drive and determination of the
creatives, that the show came to fruition and was well received by the audience. The use of an overhead projector to introduce each scene was a good idea and so we knew that it was ‘A Few Days Later’ or ‘Meeting in progress’ and ‘Audition Day’. The screen was used to describe the mood of the Director and detail some reminders of dos and don’ts: such as Don’t Touch the Props or No Food while in Costume. The songs were cleverly adapted from well known musicals to suit the show, such as ‘Our House’ (from the Madness musical) being turned into ‘Our Show’ . There was a fabulous dance routine, intentionally badly and humorously executed and this had some great dialogue and singing as well – the triple threat and it was done magnificently. Towards the end, the ensemble delivered a very touching version of ‘Seasons of Love’ and some audience participation of ‘Always Look on the Bright Side’ sent everyone happy and whistling. Well done all on a fabulous idea and another successful show.
