This exciting new interpretation of Hot Mikado from WSM Operatic Society was a feast for the eyes and ears of the more sophisticated and theatrically appreciative audience.  Lovers of the differing musical genres of Swing, Jazz, Big band sound and occasionally the sweet and lyrical tunes of G & S had a field day! But let us not forget the lovers of dance and excellent choreography; this was all expertly incorporated into a clever interpretation of the show by experience director Simon Duffill, an admirable musician, now MD, Jon Hopes and Choreographer Nina Blackwell.  Although there were many superb principal roles, the star of the show was undoubtedly the whole cast, working together as a team with expert feet, voices and mile wide smiles.

The comedy , the singing, the dancing, the music,  the characters, had all been expertly rehearsed and presented by the production team, who together with the talented cast offered a polished and imaginative show. Add inspired costumes…so colourful (loved the trainers) and creative lighting, Weston OS once again gave the audience another top class show to be proud of.  This musical undoubtedly appeals to a niche market, as shown by the small but appreciative audience, but sometimes societies need to stretch themselves creatively, as long as they can come back with a ‘seat’ winner next time, bringing security to the society. Well done WOS, another feather in your excellent hat collection!

I wish you all success for this exciting year and look forward to your forthcoming productions.
