This was a very good show. Well staged, in a believable club setting, with some strong principal performances and a lively and engaged chorus, colourful costumes and excellent music, this was one of the best shows I have seen HMM put on. I’m sure it was a strong collaborative effort between Director/Choreographer and Musical Director. I felt the combination of the bar staff in blue and red dresses, the patrons in zoot suits and those of rank dressed in military uniforms, all worked to distinguish the various protagonists. The staging, with the band onstage, helped to give the show a real club feel and yet there was plenty of room for the dance numbers. Great singing from the Principals, well supported by an enthusisatic Chorus who all moved and danced well. Characterisation was very good and the overriding “silliness” of the show came across with everyone playing to that style.

This was a most enjoyable evening and another production showcasing the variety of HMM’s repertoire.
