The Playhouse is a tiny but perfectly formed venue steeped in history and CODS obviously know their home presenting the prettiest Duck yard which was home to the most adorable group of Poultry you could imagine. This was the inaugural production for the Youth Theatre and the cast showed such composure and confidence that it has set their bar extremely high. Many of the cast were Primary School age and they smiled and sang with as much confidence as any adult company would be proud of. This one act musical waddled along at a great pace and was a visual feast of colour and feathers. Casting was perfect and every cast member had their little moment, performances that stick in the memory are Ugly, Ida, Bullfrog and Grace and of course the adorable balls of yellow fluff! Choreography was within the companies’ capabilities but still challenging and musically a backing track was used but approached very well. Setting was simple colourful and the scene changes were seamless, lighting included moving gobos and SFX were nicely executed and sound enhanced the performers’ voices. Costumes were bright and uniformed with lots of feathers and fluff, make up was delicate and worked well on the young faces without hiding their expressions which gave character to all. A totally pleasurable afternoon on a lovely summers day ….Well done everyone.
