Home I'm Darling

Home, I’m Darling is a thought-provoking comedy set in modern day but with the leads living according to 1950’s values and aesthetics. Within the play there are themes of the legacy of the Women’s Liberation Movement, feminism, commune living and the realignment of work/life balance post Covid. In her direction, The director with the support of her producer embraced these themes, so that they were upfront and foremost in the action without overpowering. The play had been very well cast and it was clear that all the actors totally understood and inhabited their characters. All of them looked very natural in their roles and worked very comfortably together. I am quite sure that much time was also spent on practicing eating and drinking whilst acting as a large amount of food and drink was consumed and nobody coughed!!

The play was staged with a set comprising of four different acting spaces which Caroline used very effectively, and its design really worked for the play. It was obvious from the start that a lot of research had gone into this production, and the set perfectly mirrored a 1950’s house complete with a plethora of period props and wonderfully authentic costumes

Overall, this play was very well delivered with all the elements of the witty, clever and somewhat poignant script neatly pinned together.
